Household Cleaning Essentials

keeping a clean home and supporting your health are not always one and the same. not when you’re inhaling harsh, endocrine-disrupting chemicals from the ‘cleaning’ products found at big box stores. the scary part is, continual exposure to these toxins can pose long-term risks related to fertility, immunity, and more.

what follows is a list of my go-to supplies for keeping my home clean and nontoxic! you might already have one or two of these items lurking around your home somewhere.

like anything else, there’s no need to do a complete overhaul of your cleaning products. as something runs out, replace it with a nontoxic alternative. slowly but surely your entire cleaning arsenal will be hormone-friendly!

  • Charlie’s Soap powder laundry detergent

    • this is an economical option for laundry that gets the job done without any chemicals or toxins that irritate skin

    • 1 scoop combined with a splash of white vinegar and a few drops of lemon essential oil yield clean clothes every time

  • White vinegar

    • Stop using fabric softener with toxic fragrances and hormone-disrupting chemicals and switch to plain white vinegar instead.

    • A splash of white vinegar removes mold, mildew, and product buildup that traps odors for fresh, clean clothes

  • Natural bristle scrub brushes

  • Dehumidifier

    • Keeping moisture to a minimum in the bathroom (or any room of your home) is essential to preventing mold growth

    • This dehumidifier is great, plus once it fills up you can recycle the water by watering your plants

  • Air purifier

    • Air quality in your home affects your health so to support respiratory health, reduce allergens, and remove pollutants from your home, I suggest using an air purifier

    • You can definitely invest in a high-end air purifying system but this air purifier works really great as a starter.

    • Put one in your living room and one in your bedroom, put the replacements on subscription, and enjoy fresher air and less dust, too!

  • Cleaning rags

    • save money by repurposing old sheets, t-shirts, etc. or snag some off amazon

    • Cut down on paper towels by using cotton or microfiber rags for cleaning around the house (windows, mirrors, countertops)

  • Dryer balls

    • Fabric softener and dryer sheets are out, wool dryer balls are in!

    • Less waste, no hormone disrupting ingredients, same soft clothes

    • Leave them in your dryer, add a few drops of essential oil if you want a scent boost
