Sweet Potato Turkey Chili

You’ll need:

  • 2 tbsp avocado oil or ghee

  • 1 shallot, finely chopped

  • 1 lb. ground turkey

  • 4 garlic cloves, minced

  • 1 tsp cumin

  • 1 tsp paprika

  • 1/2 tsp ground turmeric

  • 1 tsp chili powder

  • 1/2 tsp thyme

  • 1/2 tsp oregano

  • 1/2 tsp red chili flakes

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 3 cups sweet potato, peeled and diced (about 2)

  • 4 cups chicken or vegetable broth

  • 2 can great norther or cannellini beans, drained

  • 3 celery stalks, chopped

  • 1/2 cup cilantro, chopped

  • zest and juice of 1 lime

  • 1 jalapeño, seeded and diced, optional


assemble all dry spices in a small bowl and stir to combine.

Heat a large saucepan over medium heat, adding oil or ghee. When it shimmers, add the shallot and celery and cook, stirring occasionally until translucent. Add the ground turkey to the pan, breaking it apart and browning it. When the turkey is almost cooked through, stir in the garlic and then the spices, stirring to coat.

When the turkey mixture is fragrant, add in the sweet potato, broth, jalapeño if using, and beans. Bring to a boil, Cover, and reduce heat to low. Cook for 30 minutes or until sweet potatoes reach desired softness.

Remove from heat, stir in cilantro, lime zest, and lime juice. Serve and enjoy!
